I would suggest using a tripod, and maybe a polarizing filter to get the skin from over-exposing... I would go with a tighter crop too. the twig across the one face probably keeps this from being framing shot. I find that taking shots of people in direct sunlight is difficult; they squint, and its hard to keep shadows from showing. a polarising filter helps a lot with some of that.
